Information on Iowa City

Conference Location

The conference will be held in the adjoining Adler Journalism Building (104 W. Washington St.) and Becker Communications Building (25 S. Madison St.).

From most parking or downtown hotels, you will head west down W. Washington St. and continue onto a concrete walkway where W. Washington St. meets S. Madison St. You will see a cylindrical statue with various languages cut-out. This statue is between the Adler Journalism Building and Becker Communications Building.

On Friday, October 10, the public talks will be located:

  • 12:30–3pm in E105 Adler Journalism Building
  • 3–3:15pm (break) in the Adler Journalism Building Rotunda directly outside E105
  • 3:15–5pm in 101 Becker Communications Building

Parking in Iowa City

Metered parking is available on the streets, however it is more convenient—and cheaper—to park in the ramps. The first hour is free and $2/hr after.

The following list of ramps is ordered by proximity to the Adler Journalism Building and Becker Communication Building:

  • Capitol Street Ramp (220 S. Capitol Street)
  • Dubuque Street Ramp (220 S. Dubuque Street)
  • Court Street Transportation Center (150 E. Court Street)
  • Tower Place and Parking (335 Iowa Avenue)

There are 6 hotels in downtown Iowa City that are walkable to the conference. All have paid parking with hourly and daily rates.

Note there are more hotels in Iowa City and Coralville available that allow for easy access to the conference. All would require driving to the conference. Most outside of downtown provide free parking.
