Brant Houston,
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Brant Houston is the Knight Chair in Investigative Reporting at the University of Illinois where he teaches investigative and data journalism and oversees an online newsroom.  He previously was executive director of Investigative Reporters and Editors, a group of 5,000 members, and before that an award-winning investigative reporter for 17 years.

He is co-founder and chair of the Global Investigative Journalism Network and co-author of “The Investigative  Reporter’s Handbook” and author of “Computer-Assisted Reporting:  A Practical Guide.”

Gary_Kebbel
Gary Kebbel,
University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Gary Kebbel is a journalism professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He organized the first MobileMe&You conference last year, and has come back for more.

He is a former Journalism Program Director at Knight Foundation. Kebbel has been the news director at AOL, and is a founding editor of USATODAY.com and Newsweek.com. He was a home page editor at washingtonpost.com. Kebbel also was the night graphics editor at USA TODAY.

Owen Youngman

Owen Youngman joined Northwestern’s Medill School as a tenured full professor and holder of the University’s endowed Knight Chair in Digital Media Strategy in 2009, after a 37-year career at the Chicago Tribune focused on new product development, innovation, and interactive media.

He created such Web sites as chicagotribune.com and the entertainment site metromix.com as the Tribune’s first director of interactive media (1995-99), and in 2002 he directed the launch of a Metromix mobile application for feature phones on the U.S. Cellular network. He worked with other faculty to establish the Knight Lab, now in its fifth year of developing new technologies for journalists and audiences. Recently he has helped to lead Medill’s expansion into the new facility in San Francisco that is hosting this conference.

José Zamora joined Univision in June 2012 and leads strategic communications for Univision Network News. In that role, he is responsible for ensuring that content produced by Univision’s news division has the widest possible reach and impact, from cable news to mobile video. He also manages the integration of media innovations into the newsroom and helps develop partnerships with foundations, nonprofits and other media and technology organizations to allow Univision News to further inform, engage and empower its audience.
